Here in the henhouse, built in 1902, our egg producers – what a surprise – were once housed. An old “curing house” (smokehouse) as well as a storeroom were also present.
For years we had been planning to make something out of this beautiful old building and so the idea arose to also let other people experience our unbelievable quality of life and to create a “mountain lodge or chalet” out of it.
The old building was demolished and all sections not ravaged by woodworms were salvaged. After all the supply lines had been laid in the ground and modern foundations created, we were able to start with the restoration work.
And that is how our “henhouse” came to life again, designed in accordance with the old model, while sporting modern conveniences tucked discreetly away. The chalet in Unken offers a spacious living room with genuine old furniture, an antique wooden stove which is not only beautiful and heats the living room, but on which you can still cook properly. Two rooms with a double bedand a luxurious bathroom, their own tiled stove, a massive walk-in shower, extra WC and, of course, underfloor heating for those cold winter days. In front of the chalet, there is a large, partially-covered terrace with access to the outdoors sauna. In the summer holidays, the terrace just invites you to enjoy some barbecues and sunshine and a garden shower allows you to cool down after being in the sauna.
A chalet holiday in Unken also however means you will be self-catering. You are responsible for gathering your own wood to take into the chalet, you put your own heating on, you do your own cleaning (we of course will handle the final cleaning), you are responsible for clearing the snow on your terrace, etc. If you need us we are there for you, if not, we will leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday and feel at home with us ...
